The Worst Vacation Ever Contest

Event Image

Expired passports and poison ivy and grandmother brought the cat on the road trip...oh my!

In 59 words or fewer, tell us the story of the worst vacation EVER. This can be fiction or nonfiction, but reach for something wacky or surprising—we've all heard the one about food poisoning.

To get your wheels turning, some examples:

We stayed in a tiled apartment with a Juliet balcony. Olá, Bairro Alto. Ten girls, three beds, twenty wine bottles. When we docked too many chargers, causing a building-wide blackout, I noticed you. How panicked you were about your Airbnb rating. How while the rest of us laughed, even in the dark, there were tears rolling down your cheeks.

I remember little of Old Quebec, other than that I was miserable there, though I still think fondly of the city. I was fifteen and unmoored, a regular Hemingway in Paris, if Hemingway was with his parents, and they fought the whole time. It’s true what they say, though. The poutine can’t be beat.
